Saffery Champness - Urgent Reminder to Rural Businesses on Annual Returns
Saffery Champnessis reminding its landowning and farming clients that they could face penalties from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if they fail to get their annual returns filed on time.
Andrew Arnotta partner of SafferyChampness Landed Estates and Rural Business Group says: “Employer annual returns (P35 and P14s forms) need to be submitted on-line by the 19th May. Changes that have come into effect this year will almost certainly result in late-filing penalties if returns are sent after the 19th May deadline.
“Previously a statutory concession allowed employers extra time before HMRC charged a late filing penalty – but this has been withdrawn” says Andrew Arnott.
Saffery Champness is also reminding landowning and farming employers that, with very few exceptions, they will be liable to a penalty if they file their annual return on paper.
Last year no penalties were charged to employers with five or less employees, but these transitional arrangements have now come to an end, warns Saffery Champness.
