Looking to book some Shooting?*

Booking shooting days can be mind-boggling; with so many places to shoot in Scotland it’s difficult to know where to begin. If you are looking for a comprehensive service where you can book shooting days directly then www.gunsonpegs.com believe they have the answer. Whilst running a driven shoot in Cambridgeshire, James Horne had difficulty filling every single day and peg with his own contacts. This issue, which of course could be the difference between profi t and loss, inspired the development of a system that allows the buying and selling of shooting.
James’s fledgeling enterprise became Guns On Pegs, a website through which shoot organisers can control the whole process of finding guns, for free, and through which guns can get a wealth of opportunities which were previously available only through word of mouth.
Guns On Pegs has now become the largest driven shoot-fi nder service in the UK, completely altering the landscape of shooting both at home and internationally. The service has over 24,000 members and offers a wide range of services, including a sporting directory, shooting classifieds, shooting insurance through its Fieldsports Club and a comprehensive list of available shoot days in the UK.
After registering for free, a prospective gun can search available sport by date, cost, location or quarry at the ‘Find Pegs or Days’ page; you can also contact a shoot directly with no added agent’s fee. Vehicles, jobs and countless numbers of dogs, poults and guns change hands through the highly successful directory section.
Although it is now run by James and Chris Horne, James’s wife Ali and two members of staff, the concept behind Guns On Pegs remains the same as when it was set up in 2007, but it has grown into a one stop shop for everything to do with game shooting.
There are over 700 registered shoots from across the UK, Europe and Africa, giving a wealth of opportunity to shoot somewhere different every day of the season! The website even boasts a 200 strong hotel section based entirely on the recommendations of members.
Guns On Pegs has also revolutionised the way shoot cancellation Insurance is bought and sold by putting the process online and allowing people to take out cover in only a minute – the system has proved a huge success and is easy to use. The Fieldsports Club, in collaboration with the GWCT, aims to give members shooting insurance and a vast range of shooting benefi ts whilst supporting the Released Pheasant Appeal, in an attempt to make shooting more sustainable.
Each shoot advertised on the Guns On Pegs website is given its own individual page through which to sell their spare days. These include photographs and promotions the shoot may be holding to encourage new guns to join them. “Guns On Pegs truly is your only resource if you are looking to join a driven shoot,” the company say, with some justification.
It’s an interesting thought that the launch of Guns On Pegs is 21st Century technology helping a 19th Century tradition to flourish, by filling valuable pegs and days for shoots and opening up opportunities for guns to shoot somewhere new across the UK, Europe and Internationally.
Visit www.gunsonpegs.com for access to the wide range of services they offer, or for more information on the Released Pheasant Appeal, check out www.gwct.org.uk and search for ‘Released Pheasants’.
