'Drews' is a well established syndicate shoot , currently captained by Ewan McGregor, it extends over 1200 acres of rolling Hampshire downs, steep 'high bird' hangers, and 400 acres of woodland. It was known as "The Shooting Times" shoot and received much press coverage through the writings of Colin Willock the writer and broadcaster who was one of our members.
Shooting is most Thursdays throughout the season, driven birds, with bags of between 110 and 150 pheasants and occasional partridge from any 5 of the 18 drives. The drives are aimed at guns who want good quality birds but with more than enough to be selective depending upon ability.
We cultivate 18 acres of game strip and as the farm is part of Natural England's Higher Level Stewardship scheme we also enjoy an additional eight acres of cultivated wild bird cover and 10 acres of standing wheat. As a result we have a high percentage of wild birds including up to 60 grey partridge which are allowed to fly through. In addition we put down 3800 pheasants mainly fens and Chinese crosses.
We shoot through to mid afternoon, with a mid morning break, finishing off with a chef cooked lunch in a dedicated room in a local Hampshire inn. Drews offers a great day out.
